It’s National Poetry Day tomorrow, so here are two of my favourites, with accompanying photos.

Little Dog’s Rhapsody in the Night
He puts his cheek against mine
and makes small, expressive sounds.
And when I’m awake, or awake enough
he turns upside down, his four paws
in the air
and his eyes dark and fervent.
“Tell me you love me,” he says.
“Tell me again.”
Could there be a sweeter arrangement? Over and over
he gets to ask.
I get to tell.
How I Go To The Woods
Ordinarily, I go to the woods alone, with not a single friend, for they are all smilers and talkers and therefore unsuitable.
I don’t really want to be witnessed talking to the catbirds or hugging the old black oak tree. I have my way of praying, as you no doubt have yours.
Besides, when I am alone I can become invisible. I can sit on the top of a dune as motionless as an uprise of weeds,until the foxes run by unconcerned. I can hear the almost unhearable sound of the roses singing.
If you have ever gone to the woods with me, I must love you very much.
Gorgeous, colourful pastel fruit and vegetables at art classes yesterday. We learned about colour theory then applied it to our work. Love pastels 🥰 so vibrant!
🍂 THIS SATURDAY! Come for a walk in the woods. Learn how to paint an autumnal watercolour of a path through woodland. We’ll start by laying down a bright wet-in-wet wash to capture the October glow through the trees, then add leaves, branches and more detail.
Complete beginners very welcome. All materials provided.

Next month! Weekend Watercolours - Line and Wash Hedgehogs 🦔
Super cute, prickly but endearing at the same time - who doesn’t love a hedgehog? They are full of character and just asking to be drawn.
In this workshop, we’ll look at capturing the texture of their prickles and fur, their bright eyes and inquisitive personalities using Indian ink and a bamboo dip pen. We will then add splashes and spatters of watercolour for a pop of autumn colour.
Saturday 17th October -10am -3pm at Abbey Fields Community Centre
£60 per person. All materials provided along with tea, coffee and biscuits to keep us going. Complete beginners welcome
