We focused on looking only at shape for the first half of life class today, taking forward what we learned into drawing a longer pose drawn in our usual way. Lovely work everyone and a useful (but difficult!) way of looking at things. A lesson inspired by my love of jigsaws 🧩. Thanks for awesome modelling @ladyofpoetry7 …

Our newest garden resident is this handsome chap - a male great spotted woodpecker. He’s very confident and brash and comes in about every 5 minutes to tuck into our peanuts. All of the other birds scarper!
I’ve been reading all about them and learned that woodpeckers have long twirly tongues that wrap around their brains and act as shock absorbers. They also have cross shaped feet to help them climb trees. I love how he uses his tail as a prop to help him cling on.
Such a smart little chap - I’m in love 🥰

☀️ Here Comes The Sun (maybe?)
…and a new term of classes and workshops.
After what feels like an endless winter, we are all ready for a bit of sunshine. While we are waiting for the British weather to catch up, let’s bring the sunshine to our drawing boards.
The painting of the lighthouse above was done by Chris at our watercolour class. Isn’t it great? I love the vintage feel to this painting ❤️
Next term of the weekly classes starts on 1st June. There’s life drawing, art for beginners and acrylic and watercolour painting too. For a full list of classes please visit my website.
There are also some weekend and one-off workshops coming soon…

Capture Trees in Charcoal at the Highest Point in the Cotswolds!
1pm - 4pm Saturday 13th June on @cleeve_common
Join me for an immersive workshop where we sketch cleeve_common ‘s most iconic trees, using charcoal, graphite and rubbers.
Known as ‘The Twins’, two beech trees have kept watch over Cheltenham for decades. Very close by stands the solitary ‘Memorial Tree’, a silent guardian of the common and place of remembrance for many.
We will walk out across the common to meet and sketch them. Learn how to tackle trunks, bark and branches and where to start with all of those leaves!
Learn how to draw some local landmarks with souls and lots of history! Complete beginners very welcome and all materials provided.

Week one of our line and wash cityscapes project at art classes yesterday. We drew in the linework using Indian ink, laying down the structure for some loose watercolour washes next week. Can’t wait to see what these look like with a splash of colour! …
