I’m delighted to announce that I’ve been asked to do some line drawings for The Crock Shop Ltd. in Stow-On-The-Wold. My first drawing is of the iconic Tolkien door at St. Edwards Church in Stow. I love exploring old English country churches and this one is stunning.
The Tolkien Door
The Tolkien door is a beautiful wooden door that is located at St. Edwards Church in Stow-On-The-Wold.
The church’s north door, flanked by two ancient yew trees is rumoured to have sparked J. R. R. Tolkien’s inspiration for the “Doors of Durin,” the west gate of Moria that appears in a scene in the The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
The north porch of the church was built about 300 years ago and young yew saplings were planted to enhance its entrance. Today these trees are now part of the architraves for the door.
The Mugs
Each mug is made from high-grade bone china, ensuring a robust build and providing an elegant touch to your tea or coffee. I’m sure that they would make a fantastic present for any Tolkien fan or anyone who loves the Cotswolds. If you’d like to get your hands on one they are available here.
Watch This Space
I’m already working on some new drawings for The Crock Shop Ltd. I’m planning to draw some other famous Cotswold landmarks, such as Bourton-On-The-Water, Bibury, and Broadway Tower. Have a browse in their online shop to see my other designs and the rest of their lovely stock. It’s so fantastic to share my new drawing with you. I hope that you love it as much as I loved drawing it!
